Willow Whisp - Salix Fine Willow is thin, slightly brittle if pushed too far, but a surprisingly comforting willow to weave, from the genus Salix, comprising around 350 species. Willow bark has been used throughout the centuries in China & Europe for the treatment of pain (particularly low back pain and osteoarthritis), headache, and inflammatory conditions, such as bursitis and tendinitis.
This was alongside its long human history with basket production. Our Willow Whisp can be pulled open & expanded to fill carts & boxes for packing, or part of an otherworldly farm harvest mixed with exotic looking pods & seeds, It can be sculpted and shaped for scarecrow parts, or weaved with other materials for rustic, handmade looking twines and ropes, the uses are endless and here are just a few more ideas.
They can be used to dress the floor of an animal hut, or dark forest floor. 'Witch Doctors' & Shaman used it in the dark medicines to release the spirit of the willow tree. You can make a tumble weed, or beautiful birds nest display. What would you make with yours?
They are available in large quantities to be hanging from racks in the kitchen, piled up in baskets by the fireside, as if just collected from the woods, on stalls or over tables for the local market as kitchen garden accessories.
Dimensions: 1kg hank which is approx 80 cm in length.
